ShakurmaAdventures Nepal

Lumbini Province

Lumbini

A UNESCO World Heritage pilgrimage site and the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha) — a place of quiet significance rather than a conventional sightseeing stop.

Visiting with the right pace

Lumbini rewards slowing down. Most visitors spend a full day exploring the Sacred Garden and Monastic Zone, and travellers with a specific pilgrimage or meditation interest often prefer two days so there is time to sit quietly, visit several monasteries and avoid rushing between sites.

We combine Lumbini into wider Nepal itineraries (typically after Pokhara or Chitwan) and also work with Buddhist-circuit travellers arriving via India, and with families and groups whose interest is cultural and historical rather than strictly religious.

Respectful visiting

Lumbini is an active pilgrimage site for Buddhists from many countries as well as a place of quiet reflection for non-religious visitors. We brief travellers on appropriate dress, behaviour inside monasteries and temples, and photography etiquette before arrival.
