Entry options from India

Indian travellers can reach Nepal by direct flight into Kathmandu, or by road through several official border crossings, most commonly Sunauli/Belahiya (near Lumbini) and Raxaul/Birgunj. Road entry works well if you're combining Nepal with a wider North India itinerary, or heading straight to Lumbini.

Entry requirements for Indian nationals differ from most other nationalities and can change — please carry valid photo identification (passport or another accepted government ID) and check the current official guidance from Nepal's Department of Immigration or your travel agent before you travel, rather than relying on general information online.

What Indian travellers often plan

We see three broad patterns from Indian travellers: family holidays combining Kathmandu and Pokhara at an easy pace; honeymoon trips focused on Pokhara's lakes and mountain views; and pilgrimage-focused journeys connecting Lumbini (birthplace of the Buddha) with Kathmandu's temples, often extended from a wider India pilgrimage circuit.

  • Kathmandu + Pokhara short escape (4–6 days)
  • Family-paced Kathmandu, Chitwan & Pokhara trip
  • Buddhist/Hindu pilgrimage journey via Lumbini

Payments & currency
